Guiding trips

 My business offerings

The focus of my guide service is utilizing my knowledge and skill base to provide family-oriented adventures in the Katahdin and remote Jo-Mary areas. This focus will be two-fold. One will be canoe and kayak instruction including basic compass and map orientation on the remote Jo-Mary Lake area. This area consists of Middle Jo-Mary and Turkey Tail lakes. The first sporting camps in the area were established at the Buckhorn Camps in 1895 on Middle Jo-Mary. https://buckhorncamps.com. Secondly, there will be a hike available in this area to the peak of Ragged Mountain, with almost a thousand-foot gain over the surrounding area. At the peak of the mountain stands a steel tower that was erected in 1918 and still stands today, without the fire rangers cabin that was on a base at the top. This site was chosen to view the mountains and areas in southern Baxter Park including Mt. Katahdin. It also provided views west to the area that is now part of the Appalachian Trails Wilderness 100, considered to be the most remote section of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine that leads to Mt. Katahdin. This view includes White Cap Mountain, as well as, the Chairback/ Barren Mountain range. This hike will include basic compass and map orienteering, as well as, Maine animal track identification such as Moose, Deer and many Maine animal species that call Ragged Mountain there home. ID cards will be provided courtesy of Maine Inland Fish and Wildlife.

The second area of offering for my guide service is fishing and recreation boating opportunities on the Pemadumcook Chain of lakes bordering the southern boundary of Baxter Park. The Pemadumcook chain consists of Five lakes, Pemadumcook, South twin, North Twin, Elbow and Ambajejus. This chain is the fourth largest in the State of Maine, encompassing 18,000 acres. The recreation tours will provide an unobstructed view of Mt. Katahdin, the jewel mountain of Maine and its adjacent peaks, The Brothers, Mount O-J-I and Double Top Mountain all exceeding 3500 ft. in height, with Katadihn at 5267. Included in the recreation trip is a visit to the Ambajejus Boomhouse, that has been on the National Register of Historic Places for forty years. https://themaineboomhouses.org/ambajajejus-boomhose/. It sits on an island at the point where the West Branch of the Penobscot River empties into Ambajejus Lake. The building has been restored to reflect life at the Boomhouse in the 1900’s, with a large array of artifacts and photographs from that era.

The scenic boat rides can include fishing and stops at one of remote beaches for family exploration. For the clients conveyance, the party boat is equipped with a pop-up porti-potti.
